kid-approved dinner!

Homemade pigs in a blanket are the easiest appetizer/lunch/dinner idea you'll ever make! The crescent dough makes these quick to put together for a meal with friends and family.

Whenever I make these tasty hot dog treats, everyone loves them! They don't last long around our house. Pigs in a blanket make a really great after-school snack for kids to grab and eat when they run through the door (just like our Hot Dog Nuggets and Corn Dog Muffins).

We also love these crescent roll pigs in a blanket because they're great for so many occasions, and not just for dinner. We love to make them for parties, events and get togethers.

Kids love them, and they're so easy to make (they can even be made ahead of time so see our notes about that!) They're definitely one of our go-to recipes for all occasions.

How to Make Pigs in a Blanket - hot dogs on cookie sheet

How to Make Pigs in a Blanket

You will need one 8oz tube of refrigerated crescent rolls to start making these pigs in a blanket. Take the dough out of the package and separate them into triangles.

WRAP. Starting at the wide end of the triangle, wrap the hot dogs up in the dough. Place the pigs in a blanket on an un-greased cookie sheet.

EGG WASH. Combine the beaten egg and the tablespoon of water to make an egg wash. Brush the egg wash lightly on top of the dough. Sprinkle the tops with sesame seeds.

BAKE. Now they are ready for the oven! Make sure your oven is preheated to 375 degrees. Put the pigs in a blanket into the oven for 12-15 minutes or until they turn golden brown. Take them out of the oven and let them cool for just a minute. Serve and enjoy!!

Mini Pigs in a Blanket – they're cute!

Did you know you can make mini pigs in a blanket? These are also great to serve as appetizers or sides for events and parties.

To make them, cut puff pastry (you can also use crescent roll dough – and if you do, it's easier to use the sheet than the triangles) into 1 ½ inch squares.

Wrap little smokies or cut pieces of hot dog in the dough, brush with egg wash and cook the same amount of time at 375 degrees.

You can also sprinkle these with sesame seeds if desired.
